The present paper is about to analyze the importance of the urban image while establishing settlements for tourism business. The survey shows out the close connection which exists between promoting a location, the urban image and the city development. The paper follows three themes:

 To what measure the Western European industrial cities (and I have chosen as examples six cities from the United Kingdom) succeeded in promoting or transforming their image perception felt abroad?

 How these cities are actually perceived abroad?

 Which is the role to be played by the urban aspect while establishing the settlements for potential investors within the business tourism sector?

urban image; urban development; business tourism; place promotion
