Responsible Hospitality Practices and Their Influence on Responsible Tourism

An Empirical Study of Hotels

Abstract

This study examines how responsible hospitality practices influence responsible tourism in the hotel sector. Grounded in the triple bottom line perspective, the research proposes that governance and management, social responsiveness, product and customer focus, environmental performance, and economic responsibility jointly shape responsible hospitality practices, which in turn strengthen responsible tourism outcomes. A quantitative design was adopted, and data were collected from hotel managers using a structured questionnaire. The measurement model was validated through reliability, factor analysis, and confirmatory analysis, followed by structural equation modeling to test the hypothesized relationships. The results show that all five dimensions exert significant positive effects on responsible hospitality practices. In addition, responsible hospitality practices have a strong and significant impact on responsible tourism, confirming the proposed framework. The findings suggest that responsible tourism is not driven by a single operational factor, but by an integrated set of managerial, social, environmental, and economic commitments within hotels. The study contributes to sustainable tourism literature by empirically demonstrating the role of hotels as key actors in promoting responsible tourism and by offering a multidimensional framework for future research. Practical implications are relevant for hotel managers and policymakers seeking to strengthen sustainability-oriented tourism development.
